Eg: Somebody with 840 moxie would be level 29 in moxie (nearly 30)
The formula for level requirements is 4+(level-1)^2 = mainstats
Eg: Level 33 would be: 4+32^2 = 1028 mainstats
And the max stat possible for a level is (level)^2+3 = mainstats
Eg: Level 33 again would be: 33^2+3=1092 mainstats (and 1093 mainstats would be level 34)
Your current stat A required 2*A-1 substat points.
To get from A (current) to A+1 (future) you need 2*A+1 substat points.
You current amount of total substat points is mainstat^2 - 9.
For level Y, you need (Y-1)^2 + 4 mainstat points, and ((Y-1)^2 + 4)^2 - 9 substat points.

Levelling familiars and the usefulness of Lucky Surprise Eggs
Without any familiar skills, one LSE gives the equivalent of 11 adventures and 1,000 meat.
With one familiar skill, one LSE gives the equivalent of 8 adventures and 700 meat
With two familiar skills, one LSE gives the equivalent of 3 adventures and 200 meat
With three familiar skills, one LSE gives the equivalent of 3 adventures and 200 meat
**
Arena item odds (n=140)
106 familiar item (75.7%)
34 lead necklace (24.3%)
Assuming you have all familiar skills.
Assuming the odds of a lead necklace at the arena are 25%.
Best way to distribute familiar kills is 4 tower familiars with 10 kills and 1 tower familiar with 5 kills. This distribution only gives you an expected gain of 1.5 turns as opposed to levelling your tower familiars to just 5 kills each. In other words, the best distribution is undoubtedly:
| Quote: | 5 kills barrrnacle
5 kills angry goat
5 kills sabre-toothed lime
5 kills mosquito
5 kills levitating potato
20 kills utility familiar (pickle, fairy, shaman, sombrero)
last 5 kills cheshire (volleyball) |
This is true even if you have the Summon Snowcone skill. A lead necklace means you're done and can use your green snowcone at the Icy Peak. A smile-sharpener means you have to save a green cone for the tower.
If you like taking risks (and have enough tower items), you might want to use your green cone for the tower monsters with a sombrero, instead of saving it for the giant familiars. _________________

I've calculated rough win/loss fractions for the various lbs-differences ala vlad's chart.
In 40 trials at 0 lbs advantage: 19 - 5 win, 21 - losses
In 100 trials at 2 lbs advantage: 95 - 5 win, 4 - loss, 1 - 4win
In 58 trials at 3 lbs advantage: 56 - 5 win, 1 - 4 win, 1 - 3 win
In 51 trials at 4 lbs advantage: 45 - 5 wins, 3 - 4 wins, 3 - 3 wins
In 40 trials at 5 lbs advantage: 28 - 5 wins, 9 - 4 wins, 3 - 3 wins
The trends obviously drop above and below this.
As such, I'd say you are good to go with 2-4 lbs advantage, 3 being the ideal on the safe side. |

Drop zones of the (ultra)rares:
17-ball -- The Haunted Billiards Room
Crazy Bastard Sword -- Sleazy back alley
Talisman of Baio -- Spooky forest
Incredibly dense meat gem -- Cobb's Knob treasury
Hypnodisk -- Deep Fat Friar's Gate
Hockey stick of furious angry rage -- Camp logging camp
Platinum Yendorian Express Card -- The Dungeons of Doom
Talisman of Bakula -- The Misspelled Cemetary
Beet -- used to be resting adventure at campground, no longer drops
Spooky hockey mask -- resting adventure at campground
****
The drop mechanism has been changed. The nearest approximation is now: a few ultrarares a day. If there are only two ultrarares, and ultrarare A drops in zone 1, and B in zone 2, and 90% of turns are spent in zone 1, and 10% in zone 2, ultrare A is 9 times as likely to drop as ultrarare B. That is why hypnodisks are cheap, and hockeysticks are expensive.
Buffs, equipment, familiar, moons, and time of day make no difference.

Shore stat gains:
Stat gains per trip = base primary stat * 1 / [random number between 1,7 and 3]
There are changed possible outcomes for shore trips: changed stat gains, and changed item trips.
Clan gym stat gains:
Stat gains per adventure = base primary * 1 / [random number between 5 and 10]
Gym stat gains are capped at 20 substats per adventure, or 30 substats on the appropriate stat day.
Zodiac gym stat gains:
The zodiac gym is 1/3rd more effective than the clan gym.
Stat gains per adventure = zodiac stat * 1 / [random number between 5 and 10] * 4/3
Gains from the zodiac gyms are not capped.
Market / spleen item stat gains:
1-3 stat points per item (200 meat)
Hall of Legends stat gains:
5-10 stat points per 1000 meat _________________

The first and second form of the Naughty Sorceress both have 200 HP and can heal 30 hp.
At the start of combat, the Naughty Sorceress *halves* your familiar's weight. Thanks, Stoop!
No clue yet on Dodecapede effects.
| Kittiwake wrote: | | It is pretty conclusive that her Muscle is your Mox + 5, and her Mox is your Muscle + 5. |
The first form of the Naughty Sorceress can be delevelled up to -6. She shimmers (removes all effects) at -7. The second form can be delevelled up to -10. It removes all effects at -11.
Something funny going on here.
Base XP for the Naughty Sorceress is 500. This is not dependant on your level.
On an unrelated note, base XP for tower monsters is 40. Base XP for the shadow is 200. _________________

Ring of Conflict effectivity analysis
Finally solved thanks to Hellion and Oxbarn. Thanks, Pain Train for starting this project.

Damage calculations
Regular weapon damage:
10-20% * Weapon Power + Melee damage modifiers + (Your Muscle - Monster Defence) + (Elemental damage * modifier)
Ranged weapon damage:
10-20% * Weapon Power + Melee damage modifiers + 1/2* (Your Muscle - Monster Defence) + (Elemental damage * modifier)
Thrust-Smack damage:
(10-20% * Weapon Power + Melee damage modifiers) * 2 + (Your Muscle - Monster Defence) + (Elemental damage * modifier)
Lunging Thrust-Smack damage:
(10-20% * Weapon Power + Melee damage modifiers) * 3 + (Your Muscle - Monster Defence) + (Elemental damage * modifier)
Off-hand damage = regular weapon damage (unverified, because I'm a lazy git)
10-20% * Weapon Power + Melee damage modifiers + (Your Muscle - Monster Defence) + (Elemental damage * modifier) _________________

Sombrero stat gains:
Volleyball (or equivalent) stat gains:
stat gain = weight / 4. Fractions are a % chance of an extra stat point.
Distribution of XP
No matter your familiar or class, experience from monsters will be distributed 50% to your main stat and 25% to each substat. _________________

Delevelling items:
These items lower monster level, making monsters easier to hit and less able to hit you. Stat points stay the same.
Note: you can delevel the first form of the Naughty Soreceress up to -6, and the second form up to -10. Any more than that and they "shimmer", which means you're back where you started.
Note: there's something weird with the NS shimmer levels. Not sure what, yet.
Combat Items:
Dyspepsi grenade = -1 (thanks, Vladjimir)
Cloaca-cola grenade = -1 (thanks, Vladjimir)
Spider web = -1

Disco dance II: electric boogaloo = -5

Usefulness of Polka of Plenty
Just a rough-and-ready guide on when Polka nets you a profit. The meat values have been adjusted for frequency of monsters, non-combat adventures, etc. The zones marked with a "?" are an unadjusted average, assuming all adventures have the same frequency there. I haven't allowed for item drops and meat from non-combat adventures: monsters only.
Frequencies were taken from Grignr's site.
Soda water = 4 mp, 70 meat.
Magical Mystery Juice = 1.5*level + (4 to 6), 100 meat.
Polka with Rock and Roll Legend = 8.2 meat per turn (soda water).
Polka with Stolen Accordion = 24.5 meat per turn (soda water).
Polka with Rock and Roll Legend = 4.2 meat per turn (MMJ level 4).
Polka with Stolen Accordion = 12.6 meat per turn (MMJ level 4).
Polka adds +50% meat drop. In other words, an area has to give double the cost to be profitable.
DeGrassi Knoll = 17.0 meat
Bat hole entrance = 21.5 meat
Guano junction = 25.6 meat
Beanbat chamber = 34.0 meat
8-bit realm = 0 meat
Fernswarthy's Tower = 22.6 meat (?)
Fun House = 15.0 meat (?)
Misspelled Cemetery (pre-crypt) = 20.0 meat
Cobb's Knob Kitchens = 13.3 meat
Cobb's Knob Treasury = 45.8
Cobb's Knob Harem = 9.0 meat
Cobb's Knob Laboratory = 41.1 meat
Menagerie 1 = 18.2 meat
Menagerie 2 = 22.2 meat
Menagerie 3 = 25.2 meat (thanks, Muefigilo!)
Dark Heart = 33.4 meat
Dark Elbow = 36.1 meat
Dark Neck = 17.6 meat
Friar's Gate = 27.6 meat
Hippy Camp = 0 meat
Frat House = 30.2 meat
Pirate's Cove = 13.4 meat (?)
Itznotyerzitz Mine = 17.1 meat (?)
Goatlet = 49.5 meat
eXtreme slope = 20.4 meat
Ninja Snowmen = 0 meat
Orc Chasm = 22.9 meat
Icy Peak = 213.0 meat
Airship = 83.0 meat
Castle = 108.1 meat
Hole in the Sky = 0 meat _________________

Min/maxing Thrust Smacks
First, look up the hit points of the monsters in your area in these tables:
Mainstream Areas
| Location | Normal | MCD 11 | Scarf | Scarf + MCD 11
| | Harem | 20-30 | 31-41 | 40-50 | 51-61
| | Laboratory | 25-30 | 36-41 | 45-50 | 56-61
| | Friars | 40-52 | 51-63 | 60-72 | 71-83
| | Menagerie 3 | 60-66 | 71-77 | 80-86 | 91-97
| | Crypt | 50-60 | 61-71 | 70-80 | 81-91
| | Pirates | 51-59 | 62-70 | 71-79 | 82-90
| | Mine | 40-50 | 51-61 | 60-70 | 71-81
| | Goatlet | 50 | 61 | 70 | 81
| | Dungeons of Doom | 51 | 62 | 71 | 82
| | Ninjas | 70-80 | 81-91 | 90-100 | 101-111
| | Icy Peak | 90 | 101 | 110 | 121
| | Chasm | 67-77 | 78-88 | 87-97 | 98-108
| | Airship | 80-110 | 91-121 | 100-136 | 111-141
| | Castle | 150 | 161 | 170 | 181
| | Hole | 150 | 161 | 170 | 181
|
Less-Important/Other Areas (Under Construction)
| Location | Normal | MCD 11 | Scarf | Scarf + MCD 11
| | 8-Bit Realm | 15 | 26 | 35 | 46
| | Menagerie 1 | 40-46 | 51-57 | 60-66 | 71-77
| | Menagerie 2 | 50-56 | 61-67 | 70-76 | 81-87 |
Next, pick your poison from the menu and work out how to kill efficiently. Thrust smack costs 3 mp, Lunging thrust-smack costs 8 mp.
Cyan is spooky damage (grey), because we lack actual grey.

The adventure array
There are two global arrays that holds your last five combat/noncombat adventures, respectively, for all zones. If you visit the same zone and the RNG would pick the same adventure, there is a 75% chance that it will pick a different adventure.
Let's say your adventure array contains [drunk goat - drunk goat - dairy goat]. Your chance of another drunk or dairy goat is now quite a lot lower and your chance of a sabre-toothed goat is quite a lot higher. If you take five (combat!) turns at the pirates, the array is filled with pirate adventures and your chances of a dairy goat are normal once again.
Choice adventures that lead to combat adventures (e.g. bedroom) count as noncombat adventures ONLY.

Booze in hardcore outside the moxie zodiac
You need cocktailcrafting and ode. Minimum. Barrels are a daily ritual, starting day 1. Don't expect to drink just DB drinks. Imp Ales are godly.
Don't autosell
Imp Ales (1-2 adv)
Ice-cold beer (1 adv)
Bottles of whiskey
1. Whiskey --> soda water --> little paper umbrella = roll in the hay (10-14 adv)
2. Whiskey --> dyspepsi-cola = whiskey and cola (3-6 adv)
3. Whiskey --> soda water = whiskey and soda (3-6 adv)
Boxed wine
1. Wine --> soda water --> little paper umbrella = horizontal tango (10-14 adv)
2. Wine --> soda water = wine spritzer (3-6 adv)
Bottles of rum
1. Rum --> spices --> ghuol egg = eggnog (5-10 adv)
2. Rum --> spices = spiced rum (4-8 adv)
3. Rum --> cranberries = redrum (3-6 adv)
4. Rum --> cola = dyspepsi-cola (3-6 adv)
Bottles of vodka
1. Vodka --> tomato --> spices = extra-spicy bloody mary (5-10 adv)
2. Vodka --> tomato = bloody mary (3-7 adv)
3. Vodka --> cranberries = vodka and cranberry (3-6 adv)
4. Vodka --> goat's milk = white canadian (3-6 adv)
Pretty flower
1. Flower --> fermenting powder = shot of flower schnapps (1-3 adv)
Tequila and gin are only useful if you stumble on some fruit by accident. Same for coconut shells and magical ice cubes, unless you luck out at the Barrels. Pray for a lab key so you can spend some time at the menagerie.
Booze returns per drunkenness

| It occurs to me that this needs to be updated for a couple of the values - namely the mp costs of a couple of the AT buffs, since some have new values. |
